The Sex Shake

Back when Eddie Murphy was funny, he told Nick Nolte in 48 Hours, “My dick gets hard if the wind blows.” Of course, that was in 1982, when a stiff breeze was all it took for most of us. If you’re in your forties, however, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to stand at attention on command every time. While the best way to prolong your virility is to eat right, exercise, and control stress, one expert has added another step: Get out the blender. You can stir up your sex life—and shiver her timbers—with a smoothie that’s also an aphrodisiac.

THE SEX SHAKE
12 to 16 oz. skim milk
¼ tsp. zinc sulfate (¼ tsp. = 50 mg)
1 tsp. grated gingerroot
12 drops ginseng tincture
1 drop (50 mcg) selenium
4 strawberries or ½ banana (optional)
1 tsp. choline bitartrate powder
(or 1 Tbsp. phosphatidylcholine powder)

Place all ingredients in a blender, add two or three ice cubes, and blend for 30 seconds.

- Zinc, an antioxidant, improves your lipid profile and blood circulation, which is crucial to erectile function. It may be especially important for testosterone and sperm production, and it’s vital for the functioning of proteins, enzymes, and hormones. Because heavy alcohol use depletes zinc, it’s critical for those who drink regularly. One good source is Zinc Liquimins, from Trace Minerals.

- Gingerroot supports your cardiovascular system—crucial to every erection. The best way to get it is simply to grate it from a piece of gingerroot.

- Ginseng helps in the production of nitric oxide, which is essential for smooth-muscle relaxation and erectile function. Try Chinese Red Root Ginseng, from Nature’s Answer.

- Selenium is key to fertility—you need it to produce sperm. Allergy Research Group sells it in liquid form under the name Selenium Solution.

- Choline bitartrate and phosphatidylcholine are nutrients that help sustain memory function and ejaculate volume. Choline bitartrate is widely available in powder form; phosphatidylcholine is available from Designs for Health.
